Chapter 11- Reading to Miss Dubose.

The insulting on Atticus never ends! A lady named Miss Dubose, the meanest nasties lady in the neighborhood, repeats an episode of Francis. Only instead of Scout fighting, Jem trashes Miss Dubose's yard in result of his anger. For his punishment, she makes him read 1hr a day except Sunday. Scout comes with her big brother of course, and sticks by his side during his reading to her. During his punishment, the kids notice somthing weird, her "fits". A month after Jem's "reading" is over, Miss Dubose dies and the kids no the reason for her fits- she was a morphine addict, but stopped being addicted 3 months before because she didnt want to die an addict. Through her name calling to Atticus, he still visted her during her last hours. Atticus doesnt fight fire with fire, and seems to have a good heart for that. But though he forgives, and forgets the past of her disrespect, Jem doesnt!

Chapter 10

Credit: Mission Capable.Atticus is fifty years-old and Scout starts to believe he isn't capable of much. But when a mad dog is on the loose, and Atticus shoots a one-shot on him, she knows her father is capable of anything!

Chapter 9 Post- Not So Sweet Christmas...

It Christmas time and the Finches are together! But Scout does't follow Atticus's moral of, "Try fighting with your head for a change... it's a good one, even if it does resist learning."(Lee 101)(New book) Her and her cousin Francis end up going at it. Francis calls Atticus "mortifies" the rest of the family because he is defending a black man. Scout fights Francis and gets "licked" by her Uncle Jack. Afterwards, Scout and her Uncle talk about the situation and everything Francis called Atticus. Theres a catch though! Uncle Jack can't tell Atticus what Scout told him. Shhhhh!

Chapter 7-8 Post

In chapter 8 Miss Maudie's house burns down while everyone is sound asleep. When everyone is alarmed about the commotion, the whole community, and fire house stations rush to attempt to save the home. The home was unable to be saved, but the smoke starting moving its way to Scout's house. The fire didn't burn down Scout's house, but Miss Maudie's house is gone so she'll be staying with Miss Stephanie.

Chapter 5-6 Vocabulary

In chapter six on page 68 in the new book, Scout says, "[Dill] pointed across the street. At first we saw nothing but a kudzu-coverd front porch, but a closer inspection revealed an arc of water descending from the leaves and splashing in the yellow circle of the street light..."(Lee 68)

Kudzu (n.): a quick-growing vine with large leaves, often found in the Southern United States.

Post 1

In "To Kill A Mockingbird" the three chracters in the Finch house are: Scout,the daughter/sister. Jem the older brother, and son. Calpurnia, the cook, who acts as a mother figure. Last but not least, Atticus, the father who has a career as a lawyer. Sadly, the mother died when the kids where at early age.
